I dislike nitpicking journalists, because lord knows my own journalism can be nit-picked.
And it’s likely that NPR correspondent Joel Rose didn’t write the headline on his recently-published long-form piece about drug smuggling, “Who is sneaking fentanyl across the southern border? Hint: it's not the migrants.”*
*Why “sneaking,” as opposed to “smuggling”? It’s not like a kid sneaking a cookie.
But I need to weigh in, because not only does the headline (and much of the piece) contradict my own reporting, it obscures the actual problem at the border…
