re: Can You Really Recover From a Fentanyl Addiction? Absolutely! The same principles of recovery apply as with any other substance recovery. Recovery is a skill that can be learned, and everyone should have the method or approach that is best suited to their individual needs. However, fentanyl does present unique challenges for the detox process, as compared to other opioids. Clinically, we are seeing fentanyl staying in people's systems much longer, complicating the transition to detox and maintenance medications like buprenorphine. Fentanyl is lipophilic--binds to fat cells--so the body gives it up very slowly. A newer approach, somewhat of a loophole, is micro-dosing buprenorphine, sometimes while continuing opioids.
